Fishing

There are lots of great places here for course fishing. Try:

Ashby Canal near Conkers and Moira Furnace

Fishing is possible along the entire length of the canal preferably on the opposite bank to the towpath so as to avoid fishing tackle being placed in the way of walkers. Fishing Permits and further information available from Moira Furnace Rangers telephone 01283 224667 .

 
Sence Valley Country Park

A 60 hectacre former open- cast coal site, which has been transformed with extensive tree planting and creation of 3 lakes interlinked with a series of stone-surfaced paths, some of which have steeep slopes. Open to the public from 8am until dusk.Picnic areas and fishing permitted on one of the lakes. The site is owned and managed by the Forestry Commission. Telephone 01889 586 593

The Grange Nature Reserve -

Snibston Country Park at Coalville has two one acre fishing lakes stocked with a variety of fish. "Carp Lake" has pegs with facilities for anglers with disabilities

Willesley Lake - Well stocked lake near Ashby de la Zouch. The lake was originally built as a boating lake forming part of the Willesley Estate over one hundred years ago – this means the fishing stock is extremely plentiful and the bottom of the lake a valuable source of bloodworm.
