As part of the National Forest this area offers gentle activities, like walking and cycling along trails that take you into beautiful tranquil parts of the countryside, which you’ll share with the local wildlife. Discover Bardon Hill where heavy industry meets wild nature. There is something for everyone, so don’t miss the dates of special events that are happening throughout the year. Folk, rock or flower festivals, country shows and quirky village events. Entertainment includes jazz nights and rock concerts, drama and theatre, and even old fashioned cinema evenings in unique venues like Century Cinema in the Century Theatre at Snibston in Coalville, a fully equipped mobile theatre, and Ibstock Palace, one of the earliest purpose-built cinemas in the country. You’ll be spoilt for choice with our range of places to eat and drink and there is lots of local produce on offer. Craft villages, artist studios and galleries are sprinkled throughout North West Leicestershire along with opportunities to learn new skills and make new friends.

Discover more about our local history; we have some superb heritage centres and museums. Our enthusiastic volunteers will share their knowledge, especially if you’re researching local family history.

We celebrated our 21st Birthday here at the Tourist Information Centre in April 2010, that equates to 21 years of knowledge on places to visit, events and accomodation in the area. North West Leicestershire has developed from a mainly coal mining area, to a holiday and short break destination, many of the mines are now tourist attractions such as Snibston,Conkers and the beautiful Sence Valley. In October 2010 we won the GOLD Award for Tourist Information Service at East Midlands Tourism Enjoy Excellence Awards.
